Cheers to Perfect Pairings: Choosing the Right Wine for Your Meal

a person drinking from a glass

Throughout history, there are many things that come to mind when we say a perfect pairing. Generally, we think of items and ideologies like yin and yang, chips and salsa, and gin and tonic, to name a few. Today, we’re going to dive into finding the perfect dish to pair with a glass of wine. We can create a perfect wine pairing in many ways, whether we select our favorite wine, then seek out food that pairs perfectly or find a recipe and research which wine will complement the established ingredients. Regardless of the route you choose to find your perfect pairings, here are a few of our favorites.

Riesling & Scallops

Historically Riesling has been made as a sweeter wine. However, Australian winemakers have recrafted this wine into a dry crisp style which has gained attention worldwide. Riesling is best paired with light seafood styles such as scallops, sashimi, and shellfish.

Chardonnay & Roasted Chicken

As a tried and true pairing that is known and loved, Chardonnay and Chicken is a perfect pairing. The only item that will change in this pairing is ensuring the type of Chardonnay matches the style of chicken. For a rich roasted chicken dish, an oaked Chardonnay with richer butterscotch characters behind peach, melon, and tropical fruit flavors pair the best!

Pairing Wine with Desserts

With summer knocking at our door, wine and desserts will follow. When you pick the perfect pairing for your dessert, here are a few things to consider. A good pairing will enhance both your dessert and the wine. With so many options for desserts, here are a few general rules; a darker dessert requires a darker wine, the wine should be sweeter than the dessert, and the flavor profiles of the wine should match the food.
