Meet the Chef
Executive Chef Phil Lewis grew up in a Portuguese house-hold in Taunton, MA. His passion for food developed as a young boy, where his inspiration drew greatly from his grandmother's style of scratch cooking. "All I'm saying is whatever she was making at the time was a million times better than anything else I was eating", he chuckles.
Lewis knew upon graduating high school that he wanted to pursue a career as a chef, but unfortunately did not have the funds to put himself through culinary school. To move forward with his dreams, he dedicated 4 years to the Marine Corps. Upon the end of his enlistment, Lewis enrolled at the Culinary Institute of America and earned his BA Culinary Arts.
Upon graduating, Lewis kick-started his career in San Francisco, where he worked at Aqua restaurant for 2 years. Lewis then relocated to New York City, where he worked at some of the country's most renowned restaurants including Eleven Madison Park, Gramercy Tavern, the Essex House, and the London. He worked alongside some of the world's greatest culinary masters; Alain Ducasse and Gordan Ramsey became two of Lewis' greatest mentors and chef-friends.
After an incredible career in New York, Lewis decided it was finally time to move back to Boston, mainly to be closer to his family and friends. "To be honest, I couldn't stand the sight of another Yankees hat! I needed to be closer to my teams; I am a die hard Red Sox and Patriots fan, and Boston will always be home to me" Lewis adds.
Sonsie is honored and proud to have Lewis leading our culinary team. To check out his latest seasonal recipes that you can make at home, click here.
